Benefits of Super-Slide Liners - Super-Slide liners are non-stick, self lubricating, wear resisting, and noise reducing. They are also seamless, lightweight, repairable, and impact resistant. Installation is very easy and once installed the liner will require little maintenance.
Blue Iron - UHMW Blue Iron is the heavy duty liner. Blue Iron is the ideal combination of slipperiness, wear resistance and cost, making it Horn Plastic's most popular liner. Blue Iron is UV stabilized to prevent cracking from direct sunlight, and it has added silicone to decrease the coefficient of friction and increase release of the liner. View pictures of Blue Iron
Blue Stripe - HMW Blue Stripe is the dependable economical liner. Blue Stripe is a popular cost-effective alternative to UHMW liners. It is a virgin HMW liner that is UV stabilized to prevent cracking from extended exposure to the sun. View pictures of Blue Stripe
Coverstrips - Used in the installation of Super-Slide liners. Coverstrips can be either steel or aluminum depending on the make of the unit. Coverstrips are designed to prevent material from getting underneath the liner, keep the liner in place, and allow the liner to normally expand and contract. They may not be needed in all installations. View picture of coverstrip
Combination liner - A Blue Iron liner that is specially produced to be thicker on the tail end. Combination liners save money, give the liner extra life, and reduce weight. By having thicker liner where it is needed, combination liners are the best valued liners and are rapidly growing in popularity.
Extrusion welder - Extrusion welding produces hot air to melt plastic welding rod and the intended surface areas to bond plastic together. It is typically used for repairing liners and sheet. However, in certain circumstances, it can also be used for joining plastic sheets together. Basic training of setup, welding shoe configuration, temperature and speed is recommended. View page on Plastic Welders
Fusion welder - Fusion welding bonds plastic together end to end by melting the areas with a hot plate. Next, the melted areas are pressed together to allow the plastic to cool and solidify into a permanent bond. Fusion welding is done without the use of a secondary plastic such as welding rod. For joining sheets of plastic together, it is more precise, faster and dependable than manual extrusion or hot air welding.
Glass filled additive - Additive used in UHMW Red Hot. Glass filled additives increase abrasion resistance, coefficient thermal expansion and hardness of UHMW.
HDPE / High Density Polyethylene - A thermoplastic with a lower cost, temperature resistance, and strength compared to UHMW and HMW. It is commonly used in applications where extreme impact and abrasion resistant properties are not needed. Examples of HDPE are cutting boards, milking parlor walls and truck fenders.
Heat stabilized additive - Additive used in UHMW Red Hot. Heat stabilized additives allow Red Hot to be used in high temperatures applications such as hot asphalt.
HMW / HMW-PE / High Molecular Weight Polyethylene - HMW is a self lubricating thermoplastic with a low coefficient of friction and good resistance to abrasions and impacts. HMW is resistant to chemicals and has a low moisture absorption. With similar properties, HMW is an economical alternative compared to UHMW.
Hold down strap - Used in the installation of Super-Slide liners. Typically consists of a 3/8" x 2" x 10" mild steel. It prevents the liner from becoming loose when traveling with an empty load, but still allows the liner to normally expand and contract with changing temperatures.
Horn Plastics Inc. - Manufacturing the self lubricating, non-stick Super-Slide liners since 1983. Horn Plastics specializes in industrial plastic liners and custom fabricated sheets while providing superior customer service. Read more about Horn Plastics Inc.
Hot air welder - Hot air welding produces hot air to soften plastic welding rod and the intended surface areas to bond plastic together. It is typically used for cosmetic repairs and applications. Assortments of welding tips are available for a wide variety of applications. Extensive welding experience is not needed for hot air welding. View page on Plastic Welders
Plastic sheets - Plastic sheets are commonly produced in sizes of 4' x 8' or 4' x 10'. However, Horn Plastics specializes in custom fabrication and made to order sized sheets both larger and smaller than the standard sizes. Horn Plastic supplies large amounts of UHMW, HMW and HDPE, and also carries urethanes, nylons, and other specialty UHMW's such as anti-static and oil filled. View page on plastic sheets
Quartz filled additive - Additive used in UHMW Yellow Quartz. Quartz filled additives greatly increases abrasion resistance and hardness of UHMW.
Red Hot - UHMW Red Hot is the high-temperature liner. It is a virgin UHMW liner that includes glass and silicone additives in addition to being heat and UV stabilized. Red Hot is the best all around liner that is able to handle anything from sand and gravel to hot sticky asphalt. View pictures of Red Hot
Resin - Resin used to make sheets and liners can be virgin, recycled or a combination. Generally, material made from virgin resin will be more consistent, reliable and durable. Sheets and liners made with recycled, or used resin, are commonly called reprocessed.
Score marks - Used in the installation of Super-Slide liners. Score marks allow 3/8" and 1/2" thick liners to snuggly fit into the corners of the base of the unit. Score marks must face up when installing the liner. View picture of score marks
Silicone additive - Additive used in UHMW Blue Iron, UHMW Red Hot and UHMW Yellow Quartz. Silicone additive is a liquid lubricant that reduces wear, increases the release and amplifies the sliding properties of UHMW.
Super-Slide Liners - One of a kind, premium liners manufactured by Horn Plastics Inc. Super-Slide liners include Blue Iron, Blue Stripe, Red Hot and Yellow Quartz.
Tail Kit - Used in the installation of Super-Slide Red Hot liners. Tail kits are made of 7 gauge HR steel and act as a counterweight to prevent the tail end of the liner from curling up when high heat material is applied to the liner.
UHMW / UHMW-PE / Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene - Self lubricating thermoplastic that is resistant to abrasions and impacts. It has a very low coefficient of friction and retains its properties in extreme operating temperatures. Other benefits include resistance to chemical erosion, noise abatement and low moisture absorption.
UHMW sheets - Due to the high pressures needed to produce UHMW, UHMW is commonly manufactured in sheets rather than extruded as a liner. Horn Plastics will then cut the UHMW sheets to custom fit a customer's application or weld the sheets together with a fusion welder to form a seamless UHMW liner.
UV stabilized additive - Additive used in UHMW Blue Iron, UHMW Red Hot, UHMW Yellow Quartz and HMW Blue Stripe. Normal unmodified UHMW and HMW can begin to breakdown in as little as one year when exposed to direct sunlight. By including UV stabilized additive to UHMW and HMW, the life of the liner can be greatly extended.
100% virgin liners - 100% virgin liners are made from 100% new resin and are the highest quality liners. They are more consistent, reliable and durable than recycled liners. 100% virgin liners are used for the most demanding applications.
Weldable & Repairable Plastic - Super-Slide liners are weldable and repairable. Welding can seal corners, repair tears or fill in gouges which greatly extend the life of the liner. It is recommended to repair wear and tear or damaged spots as soon as they are noticed to prevent further damage. Super-Slide liners can be repaired with an extrusion or hot air welder. Yellow Quartz - UHMW Yellow Quartz is a specialty product offered at Horn Plastics Inc. It is a virgin UHMW liner that includes quartz filler and silicone additives. UHMW Yellow Quartz is the highest wearing and best impact resistance liner.
